Free Seminar Planned On Starting Small Business SEBRING — The Small Business Development Center of the Heartland will present a free seminar titled "Steps To Start A Small Business." It will be held Wednesday, May 28 at the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, 227 U.S. 27 N., in Sebring from 2 to 4 p.m. The seminar will be taught by Bill McKown, certified business analyst with the SBDC. It is designed for persons thinking of starting a small business, or who have started a business, and want to make sure they did it correctly. SEBRING – A review of the past year, a look ahead at the year ahead and the presentation of awards were the order of business during the Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet Friday night at the Restoration Center. Megan Klootwyk was recognized as the Ambassador of the Year. Kim Heintz was presented with the Director of the Year award. Bob and Nadine Tedstone received the Volunteer of the Year award. SEBRING — In the 1960s, Virginia Neel worked behind the front counter at Sebring's first public library, and soon she will be working in the same exact site –– this time as the president of Highlands County Genealogical Society. Members of the genealogical society will be manning the front desk of the renovated downtown Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce office in exchange for storage space for the genealogy books. Neel said she thought of the idea one night when she couldn't sleep. "I had been in another welcome center with a genealogical society office, and it was very convenient," Neel said. "I knew this building had been a library, so there is plenty of space, and it just worked out perfectly." ...more

SEBRING – Travelers and visitors to Sebring will now have access to information about the community on the weekend since the Sebring Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center is now open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sarah Pallone, the chamber's membership and administration manager, said extending the days of operation for the center was one of the goals CEO Dan Andrews had set when the chamber moved into the building in the Village Fountain shopping plaza at the corner of Flare Road and U.S. 27.
