The "Next Great American Band" could hail from Clearwater. "Tres Bien," a foursome of recent Clearwater High graduates, is one of 12 bands that will compete for a record deal on Fox Television's new "The Next Great American Band" reality show. Here the band's lineup: Michael Bostinto (guitar/vocals), Michael Crowe (guitar), Cody Wilson (bass) and Ryan Metcalf (drums). All are 20 or 21 and have been friends and bandmates for years, said Cody Wilson's mother, Jane. Tres Bien auditioned against dozens of other bands in Las Vegas and emerged as one of 12 finalists in a process recounted in Friday night's series premiere. The band has left for Los Angeles where it will compete against the other finalists in the live shows to follow. The show airs Friday nights at 8. "The Next Great American Band," as the name suggests, is similar to Fox's hugely successful "American Idol" franchise, with unsigned bands across the country given a shot at stardom. A panel of judges whittles down would-be winners through a video screening and audition process. The judges are: singer and songwriter John Rzeznik (the Goo Goo Dolls), percussionist and singer Sheila E. and Australian TV personality Ian "Dicko" Dickson ("Australian Idol"), while Dominic Bowden ("New Zealand Idol") hosts. Starting Friday, the finalists will perform live and seek votes from the viewing public. The winner will earn a recording contract with "19 Recordings" label. Tres Bien is a rock 'n roll band that writes and performs all its own songs. It's been heavily influenced by the sounds of the British Invasion bands of the late 60s and 70s, said Jane Wilson The band has pursuing a music career full-time. It's played around the Tampa Bay area at the Orpheum and New World Brewery among other places. "We parents all wanted them to go to college, but this was their dream," said Jane Wilson. ...more

ATLANTA Chances are you'd correctly answer true to this statement: Brushing and flossing after a meal help prevent tooth decay. And you may even get an A in dental hygiene from your dentist because you actually do that. But what if you're dining out? Sure, it's OK to skip apres-meal dental care every once in a while. The problem for most of us, however, is that eating away from home is a daily occurrence, especially if you count snacks or drinks in the car or at your desk. ...more
