All of our family loved to go up to Orlando to shop and tour around, but we always found our favorite place to eat, Panera Bread. So, we were so thrilled that now Sebring has one. Sunday, we had visitors from DeLand (who also love Panera) and we took them to our new restaurant. We were so very impressed on our first visit. In response to the letter in the Oct. 15 letters from Julia Holmes: Dear Julia, I can't begin to tell you the number of times that you brightened my day when I came to the VA clinic, and I know that you went above and beyond many times to help veterans with scheduling problems, or to help them understand the myriad of paperwork. More than once I watched you work your magic as you turned a grumpy old sourpuss back 30 years with a grin on his face, and you did it with patience, some small anecdote, and that engaging smile that none of us could resist. You know who I am since I have become more or less a regular visitor this past year. I truly believe that the VA has made a serious error in judgment by not keeping you on. ...more

Let me be the first to say a huge thank you to the Miracle League of Lake Placid. This baseball league allows children, young adults, and adults , with disabilities, to play baseball. A "Meet and Greet" was held on Saturday, Oct. 6. The games start on Oct. 13. Upon arrival, we were met by a group of baseball players from SFCC. The team and coach were there to pitch, run and just help whenever someone needed them. The number of young people who were there as buddies, volunteers and coaches was overwhelming. Olga P. Cevasco was my fourth grade teacher. She accepted, embraced, and encouraged me. She looked at me, listened, smiled, and I knew she valued me. She liked and cared about me, and was one of my earliest heroes because she made such a tremendous difference in my life. ...more
