Hillsborough County is home to an estimated 200,000 feral cats, many of which end up at Hillsborough County Animal Services, where they are euthanized because they are wild and not eligible for adoption. Feline Folks, a nonprofit group in Sun City Center, has started Operation Feral Fix, or OFF, to help combat the problem in southern Hillsborough. Nearly 300 volunteers built a playground on Dec. 6 for the Nick Capitano Boys & Girls Club, 1218 E. Kay St. They installed climbing elements, slides and swings on the 3,200-square-foot playground. The project was funded by the MetLife Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. KaBOOM!, a Washington-based nonprofit group got the organizations together, helped design the playground and supervised the construction of the playground set.
