PLANT CITY - Customers of two popular restaurants will be asked in the next few days if they want to plunk down money for a glass of water.
It's not a new profit generator for Fred's Farmers' Market Restaurant at 1401 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and the Whistle Stop Café at 102 S. Collins St. The money is being collected to support of the United Nations Children's Fund's efforts to provide clean drinking water in developing countries.
Judy Glorioso, wife of state Rep. Rich Glorioso, persuaded the restaurants for the second year to participate in UNICEF's TAP Project to help poverty-stricken children. Under the Tap Project, participating restaurants encourage patrons to donate $1 or more for the water they usually enjoy for free.
The drive lasts from Sunday through Saturday.
Last year, the two Plant City restaurants collected a total of $640 in the fundraiser.
Glorioso said she learned of the Tap Project last year during a Woman's Club meeting in Orlando.
