PLANT CITY - Hundreds of students at Turkey Creek Middle School were given the opportunity to "visit" 27 countries in celebration of Earth Day.
The April 23 globe-hopping trip celebrated the diversity of students at the school on Turkey Creek Road.
"Our celebration of Earth Day was more about culture than environment," teacher Gerri Baldridge said. "We wanted to do something that centered on the geography and traditions found around the world."
Students set up stations around the track featuring costumes, photographs and samples of products and foods found in countries around the world.
The exhibits included ones representing countries in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas. The exhibits made up an interesting alternative to intercontinental travel, Baldridge said.
"This idea was put together in just a few weeks, and it turned out pretty good," Principal Dennis Mayo said.
Baldridge is already looking ahead.
"Next year we will consider getting the parents and the public involved in the world tour," she said. "I think we made a good start."
