PLANT CITY Girls ages 8 to 10 will compete March 28 for the Little Miss Plant City title.
A field of 39 girls will be vying for queen, first maid and three court members. The contest, which has been held for more than 40 years, will start at 6 p.m. at the Plant City High School auditorium, One Raider Place.
Tickets, $10 each, will be available at the door, said Racquel Sturgis, a member of the Plant City Junior Woman's Club, sponsor of the event.
The winners make a number of appearances during the year, including at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Christmas parade and Florida Strawberry Festival parades, Sturgis said.
The girls are judged on personality, style and stage presence. The reigning queen is Taylor Michael. Her first maid is Drew Knotts, and court members are Alissa Baker, Katie Bracewell and Ellie Shouse.
The school is off Alexander Street, west of James L. Redman Parkway. Proceeds from ticket and concession sales go to the Junior Woman's Club annual project to give shoes and socks to needy local students. Last year, the club furnished shoes and socks for 800 students.
