PLANT CITY - The Publix that replaced the chain's smaller 1985 grocery at Walden Woods Shopping Center has a variety of activities scheduled Saturday, Aug. 1 to mark the anniversary of last summer's reopening.
"We'll have tons of activities for kids, including face painting, balloon characters, games, cupcake decorating; it's like a huge birthday party," said Shannon Patten, spokeswoman for the Lakeland-based chain.
Special visitors scheduled to participate in the first-anniversary celebration include Tony the Tiger, Plato the Publix Dinosaur, Cheetos' Chester Cheetah and the Keebler Elf.
For adults, there will be wine tastings, food samples, giveaways and other promotional events, Patten said.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Publix, 2202 James L. Redman Parkway, Plant City.
The store's predecessor of 38,520 square feet closed Jan. 5, 2008 and was demolished. The 45,600-square-foot replacement built on the site that opened less than seven months later benefits from the newest corporate design, including being more energy-efficient.
