Benefit To Honor Boy Scout Volunteer

PLANT CITY - Longtime Boy Scouting volunteer and businessman Dean Snyder will be honored Tuesday at an annual fundraiser to benefit the Boy Scouts of America, Gulf Ridge Council.

The dinner, put on by the Plant City Friends of Scouting, will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Trinkle center on the Plant City campus of Hillsborough Community College, 1206 N. Park Road.

The guest speaker will be Earnest Graham, running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tickets are $75.

Snyder will be recognized as the 2009 Distinguished Citizen by the Friends of Scouting.

Snyder, the owner of Snyder Investments and Financial Services for 18 years, has a long history with scouting, serving in numerous roles and helping raise more than $250,000 for the Gulf Ridge Council.

Fred Johnson of Friends of Scouting said the money raised by the dinner will help Plant City scouting.

"We are pleased to recognize Dean Snyder as this year's distinguished citizen," Johnson said. "Dean has been the chair of the fundraising committee during the past five years. He was a former scoutmaster and has devoted a great deal of time as a scout leader."

Former distinguished citizens honored by the Plant City Friends of Scouting include John Dicks, former mayor and city commissioner; retired car dealer B.M. " Mac" Smith; and retired lawyer Bob Edwards.

"Dean is very deserving of recognition as outstanding citizen," Smith said.
Sponsorship opportunities range from $200 to $3,000.

Donations of gift certificates, gift baskets and other items for a silent auction will be accepted.

Major sponsors for the event include CF Industries, Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, Hillsborough Community College, Sunshine State Federal Savings and Loan and South Florida Baptist Hospital.
