PLANT CITY Feb. 7 is the application deadline for entering your best concoction in the 19th annual Arts Council of Plant City Chili Cook-off to be held Feb. 14 at downtown's historic train depot, 104 N. Palmer St.
Individuals or groups are urged to prepare their best for the event, which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
"The categories are mild, spicy and novelty. And under 'novelty' you get some interesting" ingredients, arts council vice president Gil Gott said.
The entry fee for each category is $15, which includes a 4-foot table and cooking station, and $30 for an 8-footer suitable for multiple entries and groups. Each cook prepares several gallons of each entry, enough for sampling by judges and spectators alike.
"People pay $5 and get a bowl and a spoon and, of course, napkins, and can go around and taste any, and if they want, all" entries, Gott said.
In each category, the first-place winner receives $100, while second place earns $50. Additionally, there is a $25 cash prize for the best-decorated table.
There is also a people's choice award determined by spectators' votes.
Entertainment at the outdoor event will include performances by members of Jackie's Dance Theatre.
