Plant City Festival Honoring King Starts Friday

PLANT CITY The 23rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Arts Festival sponsored by the Improvement League of Plant City begins Friday.

Opening-day activities include a 6:30 p.m. Statewide High School Step Team Competition in the Marshall Middle School gymnasium 15 S. Maryland Ave. The $8 admission includes a party and concert following the competition.

The four-day event also includes the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Freedom Parade on a portion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 1 p.m. Saturday. Saturday's activities also include a street festival from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., plus concerts, a car show and fashion show, all at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Center, 1601 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Plant City.

A 7:30 a.m. Sunday leadership breakfast at Red Rose Inn & Suites, 2011 N. Wheeler St., will feature speaker Ricky Gallon, community service manager of Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and a former professional basketball player. The $25 cost includes breakfast.

At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, a gospel celebration will be held at the Trinkle center, Hillsborough Community College's Plant City campus, 1206 N. Park Road.
