Charles Stephen Dixon made racial remarks against a booking sergeant at Orient Road Jail and spat in the faces of two detention deputies, Hillsborough County deputies say.
Deputies charged Dixon, 56, of Plant City, with possession of marijuana and two counts of battery of a correctional facility employee.
Dixon initially was arrested at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday at Brandon Boulevard and Ridgewood Avenue. A deputy stopped him for speeding and smelled marijuana in the vehicle, a criminal arrest affidavit states.
The deputy found two marijuana cigarettes on the floorboard, deputies say.
At 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, while in the booking area, he became disruptive.
Deputies say he made the racial remarks and had to be placed in a holding cell, according to the affidavit.
Dixon struck the holding cell glass as deputies tried to put him in a restraint chair, and he spat on two deputies' faces, the affidavit states.
He remained in Falkenburg Road Jail today. His bail was set at $8,250.
