PLANT CITY The owners of Espress Yourself Coffee 101 have written an open letter thanking the customers who patronized their now closed downtown shop.
The shop, owned by Heather and Jon Davis, opened Feb. 10, 2007 and closed Feb. 7. They also operated a short-lived coffee kiosk at the local campus of Hillsborough Community College.
Heather said her husband continues to work in construction while she works as a part-time personal fitness instructor at the YMCA, writes and operates a painting business. "I'm waiting for the next adventure," she added.
Here is an excerpt from the couple's letter:
"Dear Fellow Friends, Coffee Drinkers, and Family (as that is what some of you have become to us),
"It was with great pleasure and joy that we were able to become a part of the Plant City community. Thank you for welcoming us into your lives and making Coffee 101 a part of your daily routine. We were greatly saddened to have had to close, but feel extremely fortunate to have had the chance to live out a dream. Many times we go through our days thinking of what we would do if only we could. My advice is to get out there and live your dream, sometimes we fail, hopefully we can succeed, but we never know until we try.
"No matter what, I consider Coffee 101 a success. So many good times, memories, routines and friendships were established. Many of our customers became much more to us as friendships and connections were made. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we write our expressions of thanks."
The letter was signed with "much love and continued affection" by the Davises and their young son Wyatt.
The Davises operated their coffee shop at 101 E. J. Arden Mays Blvd., in a building that also housed FOCUS magazine. Mike and Dede Floyd, who own the building and the magazine, are holding the grand opening their coffee shop, renamed The Daily Grind and News, on March 9.
In their letter, the Davis hoped the best for the new venture: "We also want to wish Mike Floyd and his family much success in continuing on with the coffee shop, soon to be known as The Daily Grind. "
