PLANT CITY - The Florida Strawberry Festival will offer free gate admission March 4 for active and retired members of the military.
The festival is making the offer as part of its 2009 theme, Hometown Salute to America.
Active and retired members of the military will be admitted free with ID.
"We appreciate their service and what they do for us on a daily basis," festival general manager Paul Davis said.
Most of the festival's board members served in the military, and they wanted to express their appreciation to service personnel "for the sacrifices they make," Davis said.
This is the first time in memory the festival has offered free admission to veterans, he said. Military Day is sponsored by Winn-Dixie.
Davis said he expects to spend at least part of the day welcoming veterans as they arrive.
Regular adult gate admission is $10, or $8 in advance. Gates are open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The festival runs Feb. 26 through March 8.
