Plant City Physican Plans To Open Weight Loss Center

PLANT CITY Internal medicine specialist LaRue Richter is opening a Physicians Weight Loss Center that will provide dietary supplements, behavior modification and a carefully balanced weight loss program designed for the individual.

The ribbon-cutting and grand opening will be at Alexander Crossing, 605 E. Alexander St., at the former home of Bell Chevrolet, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 11.

"Through my experience in internal medicine, dietary concerns, weight management and the consequences of being overweight, I felt that a weight loss center would provide a necessary and needed addition to the health care in this area," Richter said.

Richter was born in Plant City, trained as a pharmacist at the University of Florida, received his medical degree in Seville, Spain, and interned in internal medicine at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore.

"We are ready to help patients who are serious about weight loss," Richter said. "Shedding unnecessary weight can reduce heart problems, prevent or control diabetes, extend your life and in general make a person feel better. What makes this program better than the rest is a combination of factors can be used to individualize treatment for each patient we see. The program also includes a specialist available for behavior modification classes to help people overcome food addiction and compulsive overeating."

Visitors at the grand opening will be provided with information about available weight loss programs. Samples of drinks, energy bars, dietary shakes and puddings will be available.

Physicians Weight Loss Centers, based in Akron, Ohio, has locations in a dozen states. The closest location is currently in Tampa.
