PLANT CITY If you were wondering what became of Deborah Haldane for a few weeks, there was a good reason the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department veteran was out of the office.
She became a new mom.

Luke Matthew was born Oct. 27 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center to Haldane and her husband Clint. Haldane, the department's program manager, returned to work Jan. 20 following three months of maternity leave.

Luke Matthew was the first baby for the couple, who married in 1995.

Haldane has been a city recreation employee for almost 14 years. She worked for recreation departments in Daytona, Lakeland and Tallahassee before starting work for Plant City.

The maternity leave was the longest Haldane has been off at any one time since she joined the city staff. Of course, after helping nurture thousands of other people's children, she is thrilled have one of her own.

"It's fantastic. It gets more fantastic each day," she said.
