SPRINGHEAD - A celebration that traces its roots back to 1973 will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Springhead Community Park.
The Springhead Civic Club's annual Taste of Springhead features food, a country store and fellowship.
The menu is headlined by country favorites: pulled pork, chicken and dumplings, beans with ham, swamp cabbage, collard greens, cornbread or biscuit, beverage and dessert. All meals will be available for eat-in or take-out.
The food is all made by local residents, said Donna Weatherholt, secretary of the civic club and a 10-year resident.
"We all make it and donate it and serve it," she said.
The local Girl Scouts help out by operating a country store selling donated items, she said. The stock of items varies from year to year based on donations. The event also includes a drawing for gift cards, hunting goods and more. All proceeds benefit the club, which works to improve the community.
The park is at 3410 Nesmith Road, just south of Springhead Elementary School.
The annual event started in 1973 as the Pioneer Festival. The name changed to Taste of Springhead a few years ago.
