PLANT CITY - The Walden Lake Swim Team has been staying active this summer, competing in several major youth events in the area. On July 11 and 12 the club had several members place in the TBAY Invitational at the Lakeland Yacht Club.
Jacob Voelker was the big performer of the weekend, earning points by finishing in the top eight of three different events. The 8-year-old was fifth in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 17.91 seconds and also finished sixth in the 25-yard butterfly and seventh in the 100-yard Individual Medley.
His younger brother Mitchell also scored points for Walden Lake with a seventh-pace finish in the 25-yard breaststroke.
Before that, the Walden Lake team sent 10 members to the Private Club League Championship in Clearwater's Long Center. Another set of brothers, Thomas, 12, and Nicholas, 8, made the finals along with teammate Nick Stare.
Stare had the highest placing, seventh in the butterfly for 11- and 12-year-olds.
Others who competed in the meet included Megan and Emily Hobbs, Jamie Beasley, Kelly and Jackson Nichols and the Voelker boys.
