PLANT CITY - Six Plant City High School students have been named top finishers in a photography contest designed to provide a visual record of the recent Florida Strawberry Festival Grand Feature Parade.
"Tomorrow's History Happening Today" was the theme of the competition organized by the Plant City Photo Archives, a nonprofit agency dedicated to preserving and showcasing the town's photo history.
"We were excited at the wonderful response from the students and the great photos they took," said Mikie Snyder who, along with another Photo Archives volunteer, Cassandra Banning, organized the contest with the assistance of Plant City High guidance resource specialist Sherrie Mueller.
"In addition to the top three awards, we added three merit awards," said Snyder, an amateur photographer.
Sarah Clemmons won first place and $100, Jimena Lopez won second plance and $50, and Max Girling won third place and $25. Merit award winners Oscar Joel Herrera, Andrea Long and Connor Hurst received Outback Steakhouse gift cards.
The students' winning entries were displayed at the seventh annual Heritage Award presentation gala held March 26 at the Red Rose Ballroom at the Red Rose Inn and Suites.
