PLANT CITY A leadership and management organization for local governments is honoring City Manager David Sollenberger for his many years of public service.
Sollenberger, who assumed the Plant City position in September 2002, is scheduled to receive a 45-year service award in Richmond, Va. today 9/24 from the International City/County Management Association as part of the organization's 94th annual conference.
Awards are based on years of fulltime employment in local government.
Prior to coming here, Sollenberger served 15 years as Sarasota city manager. Previously, he served as manager of two California cities and one in Minnesota, as well as director of finance and administration for the Southern California Association of Governments in Los Angeles. He is a past president of the Minnesota City Managers Association.
Sollenberger is an International City/County Management Association credentialed city manager who previously received the organization's award for program excellence in local government and assisted with the group's 1996 conference in Orlando and in Philadelphia in 1985.
The association, which has 9,000 members, advances professional government worldwide. Its mission is to create excellence in local government by developing and advancing professional management. The association provides member support, data, information, peer assistance and training to local government experts and others worldwide.
