PLANT CITY - Lynda Rogers Fuller and her book, "Pioneers of the Hopewell Community," will be just one of the highlights at the East Hillsborough Historical Society's annual Pioneer Heritage Day at the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, 605 N. Collins St.
The community center, home to the Quintilla Geer Bruton Archives, Pioneer Heritage Museum and photographer Gladys Jeffcoat's camera collection, will host also the Arts Council Fun Festival and Plant City Entertainment's Chocolate Festival at the same time.
The events are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8.
Volunteers Pat and Doresa Young are in charge of the day's Trash & Treasures Sale and will be accepting donations at the community center from 1 to 5 p.m. through Nov. 7, except for Sunday and Monday. Donations of books, tools, rugs, toys, electronics, handbags and more are welcome, but shoes or clothes won't be collected.
Air Force Promotes Plant City High Grad
David Robertson, son of Gene and Shirley Robertson of Dover, was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force.
Robertson serves as an air battle manager onboard an E-3 Sentry aircraft stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. He is deployed to the Caribbean island of Curacao in support of counterdrug operations.
He is a 1988 graduate of Plant City High School and a 1992 graduate of the University of Florida.
Visit Dinosaur World For Free
Dinosaur World will offer free admission and treats for costume-wearing children 3 to 12 if accompanied by an adult paying admission from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.
"We're about family fun," said theme park spokeswoman Nichole Randall.
Saturday and Sunday, grandparents are invited to bring their grandchildren 12 and younger, who will receive free admission when their grandparents buy a ticket.
The theme park is at 5145 Harvey Tew Road, Plant City, just off Interstate 4 at Branch Forbes Road.
Want To Be A Queen Candidate?
Chuck Harris of the Plant City Lions Club wants to spread the word to young women 16 to 20 that there is a mandatory Florida Strawberry Festival queen pageant orientation meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday at the expo building on the festival grounds.
Thirty-five applicants, plus five alternates, will be chosen on a first-come basis. A parent or guardian must accompany the applicant to this meeting at the festival grounds, 2202 W. Reynolds St.
The Lions Club sponsors the pageant.
Donations Sought For Troops, Food Bank
Debbie Siebenthal of The UPS Store said her shop at 117 W. Alexander St. is a collection site for two worthy projects, Project Yuletide, the annual drive to support troops overseas, and United Food Bank in Plant City.
Three platoons will receive goodies for Christmas. Snack foods that don't melt or crush, toiletries and books are the most requested items. A drop-off box will be set up at the store until Nov. 12.
There also will be a collection box for United Food Bank for basic items, such as nonperishable foods, to help needy families in the Plant City area.
The store is also holding a fundraising drawing for a Wii Sport to be given away Nov. 17. Tickets for the drawing, on sale until Nov. 15, are $1 each or six or $5, and all money goes to United Food Bank.
Plant City Represented At Tampa Charity Event
Two local residents attended the MacDonald Training Center's 11th annual All That Glitters Wine Tasting and Silent Auction recently at the Pepin Center in Tampa.
They were Veronica Prostko, director of external affairs at the training center's James Ranch off Cork Road in Plant City, and Karen Olson. Prostko was accompanied by Tommy Zoffinger of Dunedin and Roberta Prostko of Longwood.
The fundraiser raised more than $40,000 for educational and training services for adults with disabilities.
Batter Up Soon For Senior League
The South Florida Baptist Hospital senior 60-and-older league will hold its games at the Randy L. Larson Softball Four-Plex, 1700 S. Park Road, next to Plant City Stadium, from November through April.
The league includes teams from Mulberry, Zephyrhills, Lakeland, Brandon and Plant City. The league will hold its first practice at 9 a.m. Nov. 7.

Choir Needs Voices, Musicians
If you like to sing or play an instrument, Joe Mendolia, who is organizing the Plant City Community Choir, needs you.
The choir has openings for sopranos, altos, tenors and bass. Also needed are musicians who play guitar, piano, flute, drums, harps and other instruments.
