PLANT CITY - Longtime resident Veronica S. Prostko, a former Plant City Bar Association and American Business Women's Association president, has been named director of external affairs at the MacDonald Training Center's James Ranch on Cork Road.
The ranch has been training adults with developmental disabilities for more than 40 years. Her responsibilities include improving public awareness, establishing business contacts and raising capital. She can be reached at (813) 752-2973.
Prostko previously served as development officer at the Johnnie B. Byrd Sr. Alzheimer's Center & Research Institute and as the managing partner in The Stitzel Law Group. She is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Stetson College of Law.
Durant Senior Elected Homecoming Queen
Durant High School senior Dee Dee L. Cardenas was crowned homecoming queen Oct. 3 during halftime at the Durant vs. Brandon game. She is also the president of student government.
She is the daughter of Raul and Diane Cardenas.
Elks To Present Anti-Drug Message
The Elks Club is teaching children to say no to drugs. Club member Mike Smith reports that Plant City Elks Lodge No. 1727 will have a drug awareness trailer at Jackson Elementary School, 502 E. Gilchrist St., on Oct. 29, and at Walden Lake Elementary, 2800 Turkey Creek Road, on Oct. 30, for Red Ribbon Week.
Elroy, the Elks mascot, will be there, and club members will hand out coloring books, pencils, stickers and red ribbons to encourage students to stay away from drugs. For information, call (813) 752-0781.
Gallery Celebrates 12th Anniversary
BEALSVILLE - Ruby's Walk-In Gallery, 2001 E. State Road 60, east of Plant City, will celebrate its 12th anniversary at 11 a.m. Nov. 1.
The gallery features the works of renowned artist Ruby C. Williams.
Magazine Publisher Receives Award
Karen Berry recently accepted the Florida Farm Bureau's Ag Journalist of the Year Award at the Farm Bureau convention at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando.
Berry is publisher and owner of a Plant City-based farming magazine, In the Field. She is the daughter of Al and Patsy Berry, longtime Plant City residents.
Church Honors Pastor And Staff
Members of Knights Baptist Church, 4809 Paul Buchman Highway, are honoring their pastor and staff during Clergy Appreciation Month.
Those recognized include Bob Dygert, who has been pastor for 31/2 years; Larry Smith, minister of music for more than 11 years; and Edwin Newman, minister of youth for 11/2 years.
Business Networking Happens Thursday

Memorial Run To Benefit Hospice
One family is honoring their late father and husband, Ray Kitchens, by organizing a memorial run to benefit LifePath Hospice, a not-for-profit organization that provides care for the sick.
The 121-mile Pirate Treasure Run motorcycle ride will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 and will cross three counties.

Bar Meeting Features Corporate Trustee Talk
