PLANT CITY - With two months gone in their youth football seasons, three southeast Hillsborough County teams are not showing any signs that they might lose.

The Turkey Creek Trojans Midgets and both the Pinecrest Pilots Mighty Mites and Pee Wee squads are all unbeaten. Not only that, but those particular squads also have hardly been challenged.
Turkey Creek Midgets, for 8- and 9-year-olds and 10-year-olds who weigh less than 75 pounds, have been steamrolling through the schedule.

Only once, in a 25-21 win over the Brandon Cowboys on Sept. 29, have the Trojans won by single digits. There was an 18-6 win over the Dover Patriots, and every other team has been shutout - with the Trojans scoring at least 26 points each time.

Turkey Creek and Pinecrest are in the Florida Youth Football & Cheerleading Association. The league has eight teams, split into two divisions each. Pinecrest is in the National Division while Turkey Creek is in the American. Each program has six age groups.

Also out to a strong start for the Trojans are the Super Midgets, for 10- and 11-year-olds up to 125 pounds and 12-year-olds weighing less than 90 pounds.

Pinecrest's teams met up with Turkey Creek's on Oct. 4 with Pinecrest winning four of the six games. The only exceptions were the Trojans Midgets, who won 37-0, and the Varsity team.

The Pinecrest Pee Wee team for 6- to 8-year-olds, has been incredibly dominant. After beating the Brandon Lions 12-6 in the first week of the season, the Pilots won by scores of 26-0, 21-0, 13-0, 25-0, 33-0 and 41-0.

Meanwhile, the Pilots Mighty Mites, for 4- and 5-year-olds, though not stringing together the same number of shutouts, is also undefeated and has scored at least four touchdowns in every game.

The league wraps up its regular season next weekend, and the playoffs begin Nov. 1.

Pinecrest could have most of its six teams qualify for the postseason.
