Published: October 1, 2008

PLANT CITY - The fall gardening season is getting into full swing.

Need ideas?

Then you will not want to miss the Plant City Garden Club's 12th annual garden tour.

Set for Oct. 11, the tour inclues five beautiful gardens. Each homeowner has approached gardening challenges with a different perspective, from winding paths that take you to "outdoor rooms" to one that has wide open spaces, waterfalls and a pond filled with koi. Orchids, bromeliads, an herb garden and a moss garden are some of the features on the tour.

Whether your garden is full of shade or sun, you will find lots of ideas.

The self-guided tour will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets are $12 per person and will be available the day of the tour at Union Station Welcome Center, 102 N. Palmer St. The old train station will also be the site of a garden club plant sale. Advance tickets can be purchased at All A Bloom Florist, 1803 James L. Redman Parkway, next to Tractor Supply.

Proceeds will be used for the veterans memorial park planned for Courier Field.

Even if you are not an avid gardener, you will not want to miss this year's tour as the garden club celebrates 60 years of service to Plant City. Plant City Photo Archives is one of the tour's sponsors.

The club's activities have included landscaping the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, hosting the Florida Strawberry Festival's annual horticulture show, providing scholarships to Plant City High School seniors and presenting garden of the month awards to Plant City homeowners.

Cassandra Banning is president of the Plant City Garden Club.
