PLANT CITY - Take a team to the state tournament, and there's a pretty good chance postseason honors will follow.

Not surprisingly, Durant High was well-represented on the All-Western Conference's National Division squad, voted on by division coaches to honor the top players from east Hillsborough County.

Durant's girls golf team, which finished fourth in the state at the Class 2A tourney held Oct. 28 and 29 in Davenport, had three members make the First Team. Senior Amy West, freshman Madison Opfer and sophomore Erika Wardzinski were the honorees.

In addition, Durant's No. 4 player, Kerrie Reinhardt, was named to the Second Team.

Cougars head coach Dick Sheffield won Coach of the Year while Plant City High's Gary Brady earned the same achievement for boys golf.

Top Durant player Erik Soule made the boys First Team.

Plant City's Kyle Martin, the senior who led the Raiders throughout the past two seasons, was named to the First Team while sophomore Nick Jones garnered Second Team attention.

The Raider girls squad, which was dominated by freshmen, had one of them make the Second Team, Kelsey Jensen. Joining her was Plant City senior Jordan Joyner.

Plant City advanced to the regional tournament on both the boys and girls side.

Voting for the all-conference teams took place Oct. 29 at Robinson High School.
