PLANT CITY The community is invited to join in Friday as the Plant City High Raiders celebrate their homecoming and final football game of the season.
The Sprit Rally, billed as a tailgate party without the cars, is from 5 to 7 p.m. on the tennis courts near Raider Stadium. The event includes food, games and drawings, organizer Dianna Lott said
The rally celebrates homecoming and the reopening of the stadium following the installation of new turf. The grass took longer than expected to take root, forcing the team to play most games on the road this year. Friday's game against Freedom High is only the second home game of the season for the Raiders.
The sponsor, the school's Parent Teacher Student Association, hopes to turn the Spirit Rally into an annual event said Lott, whose son, Trent, is a ninth-grader. Her husband is Mayor Rick Lott.
Some of the highlights include a meal of hamburger or hot dog, chips, soda or water, and a cookie for $5, Smoothies for $3, games, music, face-painting and more. There will be drawings for a pair of tickets to the Nov. 29 Florida/Florida State game, football autographed by Tampa Bay Bucs running back Warrick Dunn and other merchandise. Radio station WQYK will be on hand for giveaways, she said.
The tennis courts and stadium are on the Plant City High campus at One Raider Place, off Alexander Street, west of James L. Redman Parkway. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
