PLANT CITY Commissioner Robert Brown received a plaque and glowing tributes from colleagues during Monday's commission meeting, the last of his three-year term.
Brown, vice mayor of the five-member board, was lauded for his sharp eye with financial matters, and as a respected commissioner who did his homework.
"The staff and I have really enjoyed working with you," said City Manager David Sollenberger, adding that Brown pays "great attention to detail in addition to looking at the big picture. You've been an excellent commissioner."
"You have been an awesome addition to this commission," Commissioner Mary Yvette Thomas Mathis said. "I know when you see fit you'll be back."
Mayor Rick Lott characterized Brown as a commissioner who thoroughly researched subjects coming before the board. "I respect you as a citizen, as a man and definitely as a city official," Lott said as he presented a plaque commemorating Brown's service.
"I will find a place of honor for this in my office," said Brown, who works at Sunshine State Federal Savings and Loan Association, Plant City. "I have enjoyed it tremendously," he said of his term in office.
Brown announced in January he would not seek a second term. Mike Sparkman, former commissioner and mayor, was elected to Brown's seat in April and will be sworn in June 9.
