PLANT CITY - Dale Chambers, the first-year Plant City High boys basketball coach whose team made it to the regional finals of the state playoffs, is trying to set another precedent.
"As far as I know, there's never been a basketball camp done by the school," Chambers said.
Chambers has scheduled a trio of weeklong basketball camps for youth ages 7 through 15. The first Raiders Coed Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 9-12, with other camps set for July 7-12 and July 21-24.
All of the camps will be conducted at the Plant City High gymnasium.
"I'm not expecting a huge turnout for the first year but at least I want to get it started," he said. "The camp will be first rate."
Chambers will serve as the camp director. He promises "unique fundamental instruction" and format that allows each player to maximize his or her potential while improving on skill levels.
Cost of the camp is $75.Each day's activity goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For a camp brochure, call Chambers at (443) 668-2729.
Last week Chambers helped conduct a free clinic at Burney Elementary School, set up by Principal Sally Stevens. Nine Raider players helped demonstrate drills and had lunch with the students.
