DURANT - Durant Road was closed to traffic for nearly two hours Monday while the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office SWAT team apprehended an armed man outside his home.
Justin Bryant, 19, initially ignored deputies who arrived at about 5 p.m. at his residence, 2718 School House Lane off Durant Road, according to a sheriff's news release.
The sheriff's office had warrants for Bryant on charges of armed burglary and grand theft of a firearm, officials said. On Monday, Bryant left a threatening voicemail for the detective in charge of his case, authorities said.
Bryant did not respond to deputies dispatched to his house, but soon exited and walked on School House Lane carrying a handgun, authorities said.
Deputies closed Durant Road between Sawmill and Turkey Creek roads, continued attempts to negotiate a surrender and summoned assistance, the news release said.
SWAT and K-9 unit deputies responded and took Bryant into custody without incident about 7 p.m., officials said. He was in possession of a handgun when arrested and additionally charged with threat of a public servant, officials said.
Bryant, who told authorities he is a self-employed construction worker, was being held this week at Falkenburg Road Jail with no bail set.
