PLANT CITY - An oral history of Plant City will be presented at the Bruton Memorial Library next week by several local residents who have memories and stories of years gone by.
Voices From Remembering Plant City, Part II will be presented starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the library at 302 McLendon St. There's no admission charge,
The evening of local history and storytelling will be moderated by Gil Gott, author of "Remembering Plant City; Tales From the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World." Gott, director of Plant City Photo Archives, will introduce other local historians who have stories to tell about the area.
"Last year's oral history was well-received by the public," library Director Anne Haywood said.
Hal Brewer will share stories about Hurricane Donna and the founding of South Florida Baptist Hospital. Gwendolyn Thomas, director of the Glover School, will share some history of the school and the Bealsville community. Al Berry, former radio station WPLA talk show host, will contribute in his entertaining way, Haywood said.
All the invited speakers are well-informed about Plant City history and will share a little of their collective knowledge at the event, Haywood said.
Everyone attending will be encouraged to share their memories of the city, she said.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bruton Memorial Library with the assistance of the Plant City Photo Archives. There will be a brief Friends of Bruton Memorial Library business meeting, and refreshments will be served.
