Metrostars Remain Undefeated

PLANT CITY - The records were identical, but the margin of goals suggested that the Metrostars might be the team to beat. That proved to be true May 3 as the Under 12 Boys league Metrostars rolled the Revolution 5-0 to take over first place in the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department and Optimist youth soccer play.

Camargo Rosales had three goals for the Metrostars, who are 5-0 and have outscored their opponents 24-1. The Revolution, 4-1, fell into a second-place tie with the Crew, which had a trio of hat tricks (Omar Blas, Rigoberto Jurado and Enrique Munoz) in its 9-3 win over the Fire. Elsewhere the Vikings (3-1-1) stayed in fourth place by edging the Wizards 2-1.

All games were played at the Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex.

In the Under 12 Girls league, the Express got goals from Janet Aviles, Kendall Hostetter, Loria Ann Lozoya and Caroline Sessa in beating the Freedom 5-1. The Express have a 28-2 goal margin and are 5-0, a game ahead of second-place squads the Heat and United, which both won by four goals May 3.

Two teams are 5-0 in the Under 10 Girls league, but the Wolves and Lynx will have to wait until the playoffs if they are to meet. The undefeated teams are not scheduled to play each other during the regular season, which has two weeks remaining. Mariana Hernandez scored four times as the Wolves beat the Thunder 5-0, and the Lynx had three-goal performances from Delaney Lawson and Megan Mulvaney in an 8-1 defeat of the Courage.

The crowded Under 10 Boys league, with 14 squads split into two divisions, has one unblemished team. The Bobcats handled the Raiders 8-0 on three goals from Erick Reyes and two from Pablo Saurez. Right behind them in the American Division are the Rowdies and Cosmos at 4-1. A tie for first was broken in the National Division when the Rampage lost 7-2 to the Celtics, which had three goals each from Eric Ugarte and Jose Jesus Varela. That result has the Lancers - which beat the Flames 8-2 as Jonathan Mansilla scored four times - alone in first at 4-0-1. The Celtics are 4-1 and the Rampage fell to 3-1-1.

In the Under 7 co-ed league, the top five teams all were victorious. Undefeated still are the Hawks after a 6-2 win over the Blue Jays, while the Doves, Flamingos and Ospreys all sit at 4-1. The Mallards defeated the Penguins 6-2 and with a 3-1-1 record are in fifth place.

Today the Ospreys and Owls are scheduled to play. Both teams had six-goal outings last week, from the Ospreys' Luis Jesus Medina in a win against the Robins, and Daniel Salgado struck for six in the Owls' 8-5 victory against the Meadowlarks.

Clearly the Macaws have emerged as the dominant team in the Under 8 Girls league. Not only are they 5-0, but they have outscored their foes by a combined 39-3. On May 3, the Macaws beat the Bob O' Links 8-0.

Several close contests marked the Under 15 Boys Week 5 slate. The first-place Sidekicks stayed perfect but only after getting by the one-win Sharks 4-3. Ivan Chavez and Eduardo Ramirez scored two each. The Strikers were not as lucky, going to 4-0-1 with a 1-1 tie against the Stallions, which were 0-4 coming into the game. The Spartans and Spirit both scored six to stay tied for third place (both are 4-1 on the year).

Haley Traylor scored four goals to lead the Speed to a 6-0 victory against the Screamers on May 1, keeping the Speed on top of the Under 15 Girls league. The Stars are in second at 3-0-2. About 40 percent of the Under 15 Girls games have ended in ties.
