Action Plentiful In Youth Soccer

PLANT CITY - In a battle of undefeated teams from the Under-12 Girls age group, the Express beat the United 4-1 in the fourth week of the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department/Optimist youth soccer program.

The Express got goals from four players: Janet Aviles, Kassandra Jimenez, Carolina Sessa and Toni Marie Zappia. Both teams were 3-0 going into the April 26 contest, but the Express, which has outscored the opposition 23-1 so far, stand as the lone unbeaten.

Tied for second place are the United, along with the Heat, who beat the Pride on two-goal performances from Lorena Gutierrez and Kelsi Guy.

In other action, Ashley Piechowiak had a hat trick, and the Fusion beat the Aztec, 4-0.

Under-12 Boys leaders the Metrostars and Revolution stayed undefeated. Javier Jiminez had four goals in a 5-0 Revolution defeat of the Galaxy, and the Metrostars beat the Rapids, 3-0. The Crew (3-1)stayed in third place after a 4-3 defeat of the Wizards.

The Strikers and Sidekicks are also 4-0 in the Under-15 Boys group. Nicholas Bornstine and "Chucky" De La Garza scored a couple of goals each in the Strikers' 7-2 win over the Sharks. The Sidekicks beat the Seminoles, 4-0.

Gerson A. Herrera scored five for the Spartans on April 22, helping the team improve to 3-1, good for a third-place tie with the Spirit.

In the Under-8 co-ed league, the Macaws rolled the Roadrunners 9-1 on five goals from Connor Rogers and four from Luis Leos. The Macaws improved to 4-0, with a 31-3 goal difference. Elvis Castro's hat trick led the second-place Sparrows over the Ducks, 4-1.

J.J. Lamas had a hat trick as the Martins won their first game, 4-3, against the Orioles.

There are four teams sitting at 3-1, one game behind the Hawks, leading the Under-7 league. Paulino Ramirez had three goals, and Sky Copen, Christian Salvato and Alexia Stone had two each as the Hawks topped the Penguins, 9-4.

All four of the second-place teams won last week, with Alexis Garcia's game being the topper, scoring five times in the Flamingos' 8-5 win over the Blue Jays. The other 3-1 squads are the Cardinals, Doves and Ospreys.

Undefeated Under-10 Boys teams are the Bobcats (4-0) and the 3-0-1 Rampage and Lancers.

The Wolves and Lynx are 4-0 leading the Under-10 Girls league.

Games are played at the Otis Andrews SportsComplex off Park Road.
