PLANT CITY - The GFWC Plant City Juniorettes won a number of awards at an annual conference recently in Oviedo.
The club's awards at the conference, known as the JASM or Juniorette Annual State Meeting, included: third place in Category 2, outstanding accomplishment in education; second place in Category 2, the Joyce Johnston Junior-Juniorettes Interaction award; second place in Category 2, outstanding accomplishment in public relations; and for the second year in a row, first place for outstanding accomplishment in fundraising.
Juniorettes, who are associated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, started more than two years ago under the leadership of Nia Ramo.
Hope Lutheran Honors Graduates
PLANT CITY - Members of Hope Lutheran Church, 2001 N. Park Road, recently recognized members of Hope who are a part of the Class of 2008.
Following remarks June 8 from Hope's pastor, the Rev. Dean Pfeffer, the graduates came forward to receive a gift from the congregation as they move into the next phase of their lives. Following the service, a reception was held in their honor with all of the graduates having their favorite cake decorated in their school's colors.
Graduates included Breanna George, King High School; Kristin Pfeffer, University of Tampa; and John Trivunovich, University of Florida.
Hospice Offers Volunteer Training
PLANT CITY - Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer experience in the community? Do you have two to four hours each week to spare?
Volunteers are the heart of LifePath Hospice, and the organization is seeking volunteers in Hillsborough County. Trained volunteers provide emotional support, companionship and respite care to hospice patients and families. Training is free, and medical experience is not needed.
LifePath Hospice has scheduled three days of training at the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, 106 N. Evers St. The sessions run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. three consecutive Fridays, July 11, 18 and 25. Prospective volunteers must attend all three sessions, and registration is required. LifePath Hospice is a not-for-profit hospice that serves Hillsborough, Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.
Garden Club Gives Award, Installs Officers
PLANT CITY - The Plant City Garden Club recently honored Lisa Firm with the Garden Clubber of the Year award. Each year, club members honor someone who has actively supported the club, its officers and its projects throughout the year.
Firm has not only supported all the club's projects, but also has made possible the junior gardener activities at the YMCA. The members presented her with a garden art piece of a ladybug.
The National Garden Clubs also honored Firm with its leadership award for her involvement with a fifth-grade class at Jackson Elementary School and with the children at the YMCA Extension, as well as for her work on the butterfly gardens at the school and YMCA Extension.
The club also recently installed officers for the coming club year. They are President Cassandra Banning, First Vice President Teri Eller, Second Vice President Lisa Firm, Recording Secretary Kathy Stone, Corresponding Secretary Em Rawlings and Treasurer Jan Griffin.
