2 Fatally Injured In June 14 Wreck

PLANT CITY - A 21-year-old driver injured in a June 14 traffic accident on Durant Road near Turkey Creek Road died Monday, authorities said. A passenger died the day of the wreck.

Kyle Hughes of 604 Vining St., Plant City, died at Monday at Tampa General Hospital, where he had been listed in critical condition following the accident, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported.

Jeremy Smith, 20, of 3303 Little Road, Valrico, a passenger in the 2005 Ford Mustang driven by Hughes, died at the scene of the accident, the report states.

According to the report, the Mustang was westbound on Durant Road when the driver lost control on a bridge just west of Turkey Creek. The car spun into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck about 5:35 p.m., the report said.

The pickup driver, Harrell Buckner Jr., of 2914 Lampp Road, Plant City, sustained injuries that weren't life-threatening and has since been released from Tampa General Hospital, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
