State SAR President Speaks At Chapter's Annual Meeting

PLANT CITY - The Major John DeVane Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution met at BuddyFreddys restaurant for its annual meeting. Guest speaker Ron Toops, The Villages, Florida Sons of the American Revolution president, was introduced by Nelson Jantzen, Trinity, state vice president.

Local president David Knox conducted the business meeting. This organization is a patriotic, historical and educational group with chapters throughout the world. Members must be able to trace their family lineage to a soldier or patriot who assisted in the American Revolutionand prove it.

Hope Lutheran Offers Wednesday Worship

PLANT CITY - Members of Hope Lutheran Church at 2001 N. Park Road are holding a midweek service for those unable to attend Sunday worship services or who are seeking something different in worship. The church will continue to have its traditional blended Lutheran worship on Sunday mornings.

This 7 p.m. Living Hope service, held in the sanctuary, is casual and informal. Music will be under the direction of Greg Brukardt, who has almost 30 years in the church's music ministry.

Hope's music director, Christine Mansell, and other musicians will assist.

Back Pain Is Topic Of Neurosurgeon's Talk

PLANT CITY - Donna Saatman, neurosurgeon at South Florida Baptist Hospital, will discuss the latest trends in the treatment of back pain at a free lecture from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 26 at The Palmetto Club at Fishhawk Ranch, 17004 Dorman Road, Lithia.

"It is estimated that between 75 and 85 percent of all Americans will suffer from low back pain and/or neck pain at some time in their lives and that an estimated 12 million will suffer from degenerative disc disease," she said. Neurosurgeons treat the entire spine, both the spinal cord and the structures that can exert pressure on the cord and nerve roots.

Tomlin Students Help Day Care Center

PLANT CITY - Tomlin Middle School technology education classes built, donated and delivered a painting table for preschoolers at Simmons Career Center Day Care as part of a competitive event for the Technology Student Association. This project finished in the top 10 at the association's state conference in April.

Church Helping Feed The Needy

PLANT CITY - First United Methodist Church of Plant City has made United Food Bank of Plant City its mission of the month for June.

From 9 a.m. to noon June 29, nonperishable food and cash donations will be accepted at the church at 303 N. Evers St. and passed on to families in need.

Since 1999, the United Food Bank has served more than 47,000 people in eastern Hillsborough County and distributed 1.6 million pounds of groceries. No one should go hungry or have to choose whether to pay the rent, purchase prescription medications or buy groceries, food bank officials said.

Bike Fest Rolls Into Town July 5

PLANT CITY - Remember when you thought bikers were all rebels? Not anymore.

From 5 to 9 p.m. July 5, thousands of motorcycles and more than 70 vendors will fill downtown Plant City for the monthly Bike Fest. Live entertainment and free admission make this a popular event for families.

The fests are from 5 to 9 p.m. the first Saturday monthly in and around Union Station Welcome Center, 102 N. Palmer St.
