PLANT CITY The city is seeking bids for construction of a 10,000-square-foot metal building to provide a common headquarters for recreation and parks maintenance crews.
The building to be erected behind the Plant City Stadium parking lot will accommodate all four crews, including two operating out of the old police department building slated for demolition, recreation and parks and director Jack Holland said. Other crews operate from the public works building.
The facility will provide offices and storage for each crew plus a break room, Holland said. Having the crews under one roof will improve efficiency, he said.
Bids received in response to the city's advertisement are due by June 13.
"We'd like to get them into that building as soon as possible," Holland said.
In addition to maintaining landscaping at the city's parks and athletic fields, the division's crews also trim trees on city rights of way.
