PLANT CITY Kelleigh Klein has about 80 mouths to feed each day and she needs your help.
Klein, executive director of the United Food Bank in Plant City, is trying to make sure no child goes hungry during the summer, when they don't have access to free or reduced price breakfast and lunches. Klein's nonprofit organization is filling the gap by providing breakfast and lunch groceries to feed needy children.
The economic times are tough, and the food bank at 712 E. Alsobrook St. needs an assortment of foods to meet the demand.
Here is a list of the most critical items: jelly, macaroni and cheese, Jell-O, pudding, cereal, cookies, lunch-sized fruit cans, canned soup, ramen noodles, bread, snack crackers, canned spaghetti, fresh fruits, cheese slices and juice boxes.
You can drop off items at the food bank from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The phone number is (813) 764-0625.
Bill Heard Chevrolet will be collecting groceries on behalf of the food bank Saturday through July 26 at its dealership at Interstate 4 and Park Road.
