PLANT CITY - Sylvia Knox and Lisa Galloway, chairwoman and vice chairwoman of the 12th annual Diamonds and Denim Gala, are busy with the committee planning the South Florida Baptist Hospital Foundation event.
The gala will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Florida Strawberry Festival's expo building in Plant City. Members of the committee are Hal Brewer, Lynn Brewer, Kelleigh Klein, Jeanne Knotts, Linda Lawson, Bettye Jean Manee, Linda McDonald, Kim McElveen, Brett Mueller, Glenda Raulerson, Bruce Rodwell, Margaret Rodwell, Rhett Rollyson, Nancy Ross, Marion Smith, Ann Trinkle, Phil Waldron, Faye Wetherington and Julie Young.

Hospital Names Team Members Of The Month
South Florida Baptist Hospital has named Julie Elrod, who works in telemetry as a patient care technician, as April's team member of the month.
Other recent winners of the honor include May team member of the month Michelle Harris, who works in the skilled nursing unit as a patient support technician, and June's team member of the month, Kevin Gaylord, pharmacy tech coordinator.
Service Members Honored By Church
Members of Hope Lutheran Church honored two military members during a special patriotic worship service July 6.
Spc. Daniel Pfeffer, son of Hope's pastor, the Rev. Dean Pfeffer, is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in January. Pfeffer is a member of the military police.
Capt. George Grosskopf is scheduled to return to Iraq for his second tour of duty in 2009.
Both men are in the U.S. Army Reserve based in Tampa.
Woman's Nephew Rescued In Colombia
Charlotte Walden has much to celebrate this month. She is having a birthday, and her nephew, Keith Stansell, was one of the hostages recently rescued in Colombia after five years in captivity.
He is back in the States and was reunited with family, including 5-year-old twin sons. Stansell was a military contractor who was kidnapped by Colombian revolutionaries in February 2003.
Lots To Bid On At YMCA Auction
Some great auction items have been donated for the Plant City Family YMCA's Hawaiian luau fundraiser on July 26.
"We really appreciate the community's support in making the YMCA possible for every child regardless of a family's ability to pay," said Scott Warren, executive director of Plant City Family YMCA.
Dolores Lowe has donated a weight loss package and Trey Mueller, a teeth whitening. Other auction items are a spin bike, treadmill, hotel and air packages and a private open-cockpit biplane ride.
The tropical event will be from 7 to 11 p.m. poolside at the YMCA, 1507 YMCA Place, off Alexander Street.
Guests must be 21.
All proceeds will benefit the YMCA's Building Strong Kids Campaign.

Tennis Lessons Start Soon For Youths
Tennis for Tots and Beginners is scheduled for another round of lessons this summer. City tennis professional C. Shane Johnson said parents interested in registering children for the tots class, for ages 4 to 7, and for the beginners class, for ages 8 to 16, should contact him by Friday
The sessions are from Monday through Aug. 8. Call Johnson at (813) 707-7485.
Three-week sessions of six classes cost $25 for tots and $50 for beginners.
Deadline July 25 For '09 Steer Show
Jim Jeffries, Florida Strawberry Festival official, said the application deadline for the 2009 festival steer show and sale is midnight July 25. Only active members of Hillsborough County youth agricultural organizations, 4-H or FFA, are eligible.
Grade level requirement is ninth through 12th, and there is a $50 entry fee. Students must have a bill of sale, recent photo of exhibitor and a 2.5 grade-point average. Call Jeffries for information at (813) 754-6440.
Applications are available at the festival Web site, flstrawberryfestival.com, or its offices at 2202 W. Reynolds St.
Festival dates are Feb. 26 through March 8.
