August A Busy Month In Plant City

PLANT CITY August will be a month with lots of activities for the Plant City area.
Aug. 2 will see the Plant City Bike Fest, which will attract thousands of motorcycles, their owners and fans to downtown Plant City. The fun begins at 5 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. in an eight block area by Plant City's Union Station Welcome Center, 102 N. Palmer St. Admission is free for spectators and there will be entertainment, refreshments, food and a 50/50 drawing. Free parking is available on surrounding streets.
There will be a bike trophy contest with a $5 registration fee to enter. Trophies will be awarded in nine categories plus a best of show and the chamber of commerce award. There is a $5 fee to enter a motorcycle in the competition.

The first Plant City market of the summer will be Aug 9, featuring antiques, arts and crafts and produce. These will continue each month, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the second Saturday continuing through March.
The event will be in the municipal parking lot at Reynolds and North Palmer streets.
The event is free to attend and for vendors, the cost is $20. Free parking is available on surrounding streets.

The chamber of commerce's Agri-Business Committee and Farm Credit of Central Florida will host this year's agriculture awards at an Aug. 13 breakfast at the Red Rose Ballroom of the Red Rose Inn and Suites, 2011 N. Wheeler St. in Plant City. Marshal Sewell, state FFA president, will be guest speaker.
Cost is $10 per person. Reservations are required by Aug. 11 and may be made by calling the chamber, (813) 754-3707.
The Strawberry Classic Car Show, a family favorite, will be Aug. 16 from 4 to 9 p.m. in and around McCall Park at 100 N. Collins St. Cars and trucks from 1983 and older will be on display, including antiques, customs, classics and hotrods. There will be music from the '50s and '60s plus a disc jockey. There will be a 50/50 drawing and more. Nearby shops and restaurants stay open late while vendors and crafters sell automotive accessories.
Admission and registration for the car show are free. Free parking is available on surrounding streets.

The YMCA Strong Leader Dinner will be Aug. 26. The event will honor Sherrie Mueller, guidance resource specialist at Plant City High School. Mueller has contributed to the community through service to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, YMCA, her church and more.
The dinner will be 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Red Rose Ballroom at the Red Rose Inn and Suites, 2011 N. Wheeler St. Tickets are $75 and proceeds will go for youth scholarships to the Plant City Family YMCA.
On Aug. 28, the Plant City Boys & Girls Club will host its third annual barbecue fundraiser. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Meals can be picked up at Union Station Welcome Center, 102 N. Palmer St. Tickets are $10 each. Lunch orders of 20 or more will be delivered.

Summer Sports Camps Slated
PLANT CITY A series of summer sports camps is being sponsored by the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department.
Basketball camp with Plant City High School boys head coach Dale Chambers will be July 21 to 24 at Plant City High School, 1 Raider Place, off Alexander Street. Sessions for ages 7 to 15 will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Plant City High School head coach Heidi Kouveras will hold a softball camp for children 9 to 14 on Aug. 1 and 2.
Baseball camp with the staff of the University of South Florida Bulls will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 26 at Plant City Stadium for children 6 to 15.
