PLANT CITY The Plant City Chapter for Habitat For Humanity will hold a new volunteer orientation next month.
"Once you attend you will be ready to help build the next Habitat home in Plant City," Rachel Layman, the local chapter volunteer liaison, wrote in an e-mail.
The orientation will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W McLendon St., in Plant City.
"Orientation is a great opportunity for people to learn about our mission," Layman said during a recent interview. "People can learn about our history, receive safety training skills, and the value of teamwork."
Layman said seasonal workers, students, social clubs and church groups often volunteer on individual projects. The nonprofit Habitat for Humanity helps low-income families build their own homes.
"Once you receive a certificate from orientation you can volunteer on any Habitat homebuilding project anywhere in the country," Layman said. "We welcome anyone interested in becoming a Habitat volunteer."
The Plant City chapter announced it plans to begin construction on the next Habitat home in the last week of August. On-site volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
"This is a great way to build volunteer hours for scholarship opportunities. If your church group or organization is interested in volunteering, we can schedule an orientation for your entire group," Layman said.
Call Kathy Brogli, community relations director, at (813) 239-2242 or Layman at (813) 754-3066 for information or to schedule a group orientation.
