PLANT CITY - PLANT CITY - This year's sixth annual YMCA Strong Leader Dinner will honor Sherrie Mueller.
The guidance resource specialist at Plant City High is a lifetime resident of the city and mother of two grown sons.
She is the daughter of Betty Chambers, active supporter of the Y and a community leader, and the late Frank Chambers. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Red Rose Inn & Suites, 2011 N. Wheeler St.
The award is given to individuals in the community who have gone above and beyond in building strong kids and families. Corporate tables for eight are available for $1,000; individual tickets are $75.

Model Railroad Group Plans Plant City Event
Calling all model railroad fans.
You do not have to be a member of the Western Division of the Sunshine Region of the National Model Railroad Association to attend the summer meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Trinkle building on the Plant City campus of Hillsborough Community College, 1206 N. Park Road.
This event is hosted by model railroad association Assistant Superintendent Russ Driscoll and the H.B. Plant Railroad Historical Society.
There is a $10 admission fee, and lunch is provided with a donation.
After the meet, there will be an open house of the H.B. Plant Railroad Historical Society at the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, 605 N. Collins St., where visitors will be able to view operating layouts in HO, 0-27, G gauge and N Scale.
Women Reciprocate For Father's Day
Sons, husbands, fathers and grandfathers created a Mother's Day breakfast for all the daughters, wives, mothers and grandmothers at First United Methodist Church of Plant City, and the gesture was so appreciated, the women reciprocated with a Father's Day covered-dish lunch.
Following the lunch was a celebration concert given by Faith James, a contemporary and country-style Christian artist from Fredericksburg, Va.
Back-To-School Event Focuses On Health
Free backpacks and school supplies await children who take part in the Back to School Physicals and Immunizations program offered by Hillsborough County Health and Social Services. This free event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at Walden Lake Medical Arts Center, 1601 W. Timberlane Drive.
Parents must accompany children and should bring their children's immunization records. No sports, Head Start or child care physicals are offered.

2 Local Students On Dean's List
Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., has named two Plant City students, Sara Elizabeth Clement and Chelsea Elizabeth Rushing, to the Dean's List. The school, with 4,485 students from 49 states and 27 nations, is Alabama's largest privately supported university.
Plant City Resident Gets Bachelor's Degree
Gillian Thiebe of Plant City received a bachelor of arts at the spring 2008 graduation ceremony at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
