PLANT CITY - PLANT CITY - There are still plenty of spaces available for the second of three softball camps hosted by Plant City High coach Heidi Kouveras.
The camp is Friday and Saturday at the school field, One Raider Place off Alexander Street.
The first camp was held mid-June and focused on defense. This weekend offense is the focus.
Kouveras is hoping for a better turnout than the first camp.
"We only had six girls show up, and that's understandable. This is the first camp we've conducted, and you have to build something before you can expect lots of people," Kouveras said.
Several past Raider standouts will be helping lead the camp, including former pitcher and assistant coach Christina DoVale and college players Terra Hutchinson and Ashley Mohler.
Friday's camp session will go from 2 to 6 p.m. and the Saturday session will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with lunch at noon.
Girls ages 8 to 14 are invited to participate at the cost of $65 per camper for the two days. Since the event is this weekend, Kouveras said checks may be presented at the camp made out to Plant City, which is sponsoring the camp.
"Softball is huge around here, so I'm thinking we can get a good response for this camp," Kouveras said.
Friday's activities will be of fundamental drills, Kouveras said.
Saturday will be based more around games and base running.
Session 3, the camp scheduled for Aug. 8 and 9, will be for pitchers and catchers.
