Published: July 9, 2008

PLANT CITY - PLANT CITY - For children of any age and inclined to any sport, there is plenty going on this summer with the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department.

Saturday at Mike Sansone Park off Park Road south of Interstate 4, an encore clinic will be put on by the University of South Florida Bulls baseball staff. The first clinic held in spring was well attended.

Those who can't make it Saturday can attend the July 26 event at Plant City Stadium, 1810 S. Park Road. The $30 fee per clinic (or $55 for both) includes instruction and a T-shirt.

Clinics run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be led by members of the USF baseball staff. The clinics are for boys and girls ages 6 through 15.

The five-day Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp is set for July 21 to 26 at Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex, adjacent to Sansone Park.

It is for competitive players and will be split into age groups 9 to 12 and 13 to 18. The 9 to 12 camp will go from 9 a.m. to noon each day and the 13- to 18-year-olds will hit the fields from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Registration runs through Friday, with an extra $10 added to the $89 fee for late registration. Forms are available at the Recreation and Parks Department office at 1904 S. Park Road. For information call Steve Rossiter at srossiter @plantcitygov.com or call (813) 659-4200, ext. 4311.

Also, the second week of Raiders Basketball Camp, led by Plant City High boys coach Dale Chambers and assistant Dave Robbins, is under way.

For those who missed out, there is one more week of camp, to be conducted July 21 through 24.

The $75 fee per week includes stretching and warm-up drills, fundamental stations and instructional breakdowns. There also will be guest speakers, contests and a daily review session.

Information and registration forms for all of the camps are available on the recreation and parks Web site at plant citygov.com/rec.
