PLANT CITY - PLANT CITY - Registration is under way for the next Youth Fishing Derby, presented by the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department. The derby will start at 8 a.m. July 19 in a pond behind Plant City Stadium.
The derby is held biannually at the pond off Albertson's Drive.
Youth who wish to participate can preregister through July 17 at the Planteen Recreation Center, 301 N. Dort St.
There will also be registration from 7 to 8 a.m. at the pond the day of the event.
Participation is free but requires registration.
The derby is open to children ages 5 to 15.
Fishing takes place from 8 to 10:30 a.m., and after the catches are all measured, prizes will be given in such categories as first catfish caught, first bass, largest fish by weight and most fish caught.
Anglers must be accompanied by an adult and must provide their own poles and bait. The pond contains nine varieties of fish.
Landshark Charters Inc. is the title sponsor of the derby.
