PLANT CITY - The Plant City Family YMCA will hold its annual Walden Lake Classic 5K race Feb. 23. The race winds around Walden Lake, starting and ending at the YMCA.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Y's Building Strong Kids Campaign, which helps provide financial assistance to families who could not otherwise afford to participate in summer programs, swim lessons and youth sports.
"We invite everyone in the Plant City community to come out and be part of this great event," Scott Warren, YMCA executive director, said in a statement. "We'll have a great time and raise money to help make the YMCA experience possible for many more children right here in our area."
The event begins at 7:45 a.m. A post-race party featuring food, drinks and giveaways will be held.
A children's race will also be held at 9 a.m.
Age divisions are 13 and younger, 14 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and older. Awards will be given to overall male and female winners as well as first through third in each age group.
For the children's event, all finishers age 7 and younger receive a ribbon.
Registration fees are $12 for the 5K ($15 day of race) and $5 for the children's run. All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt.
To register, call the YMCA at (813) 757-6677.
The YMCA is at 1507 YMCA Place.
