PLANT CITY - Tomlin Middle School once again has produced a team to represent the school at the Regional Science Fair to be held at the University of South Florida Sun Dome.
"It was a real challenge picking from over 85 students," said Cindy Peterson, the sixth-grade science teacher who coordinated Tomlin's competition, "but it was all up to the judges."
Representing Tomlin's sixth-grade class will be individual winners: Haley Cruzado, first place; Dhara Patel, second place; William George, third place; Kellyanne Hurst, fourth place; Diana Corzine, fifth place; Chase Dunn, sixth place; Nicholas Gorman, seventh place; and Stephanie Galloway and Courtney Carter, first-place winners in the group project competition.
Representing the eighth grade is first-place winner Adam Skolnick. This will be Adam's third year at the fair.
Cadet Makes Dean's List At The Citadel
PLANT CITY - Congratulations to Cadet Daniel Joseph Maze, whose parents live in Plant City, for achieving dean's list status at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, for the fall semester.
Workshop Teaches Parliamentary Procedure
PLANT CITY - You probably have heard or thought, "Oh, just get me through this meeting!" Well, throw those fears out the window.
The East Hillsborough Historical Society invites you to a parliamentary procedure workshop presented Feb. 9 by the Florida Alpha Parliamentarians Unit of Tampa.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the program is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, 605 N. Collins St. Fee is $15 if postmarked no later than Feb. 1, or $20 at the door.

Hospital Names Team Member Of Month
PLANT CITY - South Florida Baptist Hospital announced the Team Member for January. She is Carol Thomas, who works in the admitting department.
Hospital's Annual Screening Is In March
PLANT CITY - Instead of wondering how your health is holding up, put your mind at ease.
South Florida Baptist Hospital's annual screening is just around the corner, and the free and low-cost screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to noon March 13-15 at the hospital, 301 N. Alexander St.
You must register for these screenings: blood profiles, bone density for women, skin cancer, prostate screens, vascular leg screens, carotid Doppler ultrasound and CT heart score.
Bone density and skin cancer screens are free, others are $20, except for the CT heart score, which is $150.
"Early detection of risk factors for heart disease, stroke and cancer allows for the most timely and appropriate intervention," said hospital spokeswoman Beverly Littlejohn.

Sheriff's Alumni Group To Meet Thursday
Attention all former retired Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office employees, sworn or civilian, and their spouses.
Join in food and fellowship at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Alumni Association's quarterly meeting on Thursday at the social hall of J.J. Taylor Distributing Co., 5102 S. 16th Ave., Tampa.
Dinner is at 6 p.m., with the meeting at 7. President Sgt. Ken Schintzius said there will be no guest speaker, and nominations for officers will be accepted from the floor.
