Photo Archives To Host Progressive Tea, Tour Today

PLANT CITY - Members and guests of the Plant City Photo Archives will spend midday today touring area homes and enjoying a progressive tea and other activities.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and starts with a Photo Gallery Walk with Jimmie Dan and Karen Robinson. Punch and sandwiches will then be served by James and Barbara Cain. John and Sally Verner will host tea and dessert.

Other highlights of the day will be live music, a drawing and a hat contest with prizes to be awarded in the categories of vintage, outlandish, elaborate and most dapper gentleman.

Potential Girl Scouts Invited To Party

PLANT CITY - Girls in kindergarten through fifth grade who are interested in becoming Girl Scouts are invited to a Penguin Party from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the Mary Noel Moody Community Room at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 McLendon St.

The afternoon will be highlighted with ice cream and cake, penguin craft activities, door prizes and more.

Mumble, the Singing Penguin, will be there to entertain.

Girls who attend must bring a parent or guardian with them to join a Girl Scout troop.

Registration fee is $10 a year, which includes membership and activity insurance. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Hope Lutheran To Host Sausage Supper

PLANT CITY - The community is invited to the 14th annual Whole Hog Sausage Supper at Hope Lutheran Church, 2001 N. Park Road.

Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 27, with dine-in and takeout service available.

The menu includes fresh whole hog sausage (not a breakfast sausage), homemade mashed potatoes, biscuits, gravy, sauerkraut, vegetables, desserts and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for ages 11 and younger.

No reservations or advanced tickets are required. Proceeds will benefit the church.

Student Named To USF Dean's List

PLANT CITY - Amanda Robinson of Plant City has been named to the University of South Florida Lakeland Dean's List for the 2007 fall semester. She is a student in the College of Business.

To be eligible for this listing, full-time undergraduates must demonstrate superior academic achievement and have completed a minimum of 12 hours of graded courses with no incomplete grades during the semester while maintaining a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Book Group To Discuss 'The Known World'

PLANT CITY - Those who don't have a lot of time to read might want to get an early start on the next book for discussion at Bruton Memorial Library, 302 McLendon St.

"The Known World," by Edward P. Jones, will be discussed at 11 a.m. Feb. 5. Copies of the book are available at the library.

New York Residents To Reconnect In Bartow

Current and former residents of Wyoming County, N.Y., and their friends are invited to the 2008 annual reunion and picnic in Florida.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24, with lunch at noon. The site will be the Bartow Civic Center, 2250 S. Floral Ave.

Those attending should bring table service and beverages for their party and a dish to share.

This gathering has been held in Florida for more than 30 years. Last year, more than 150 people attended.
