Quartet Establishes Record With 3,019

Jarrod McComas started it.

Teammate and anchorman Jason Dixon finished it.

When the evening's competition was over, Jon Kunde managed to outdistance both of his teammates.

And together with Bob Burns in the leadoff position, Team No. 6 established records in the Pin Chasers Midtown Pepsi 8/40 League, but fell 20 pins short of the city and state three-game record for a four-man team.

The Burns-Kunde-McComas-Dixon quartet totaled 3,019, an average of 251 per man, with games of 1,027, 1,008 and 984.

Individually, Kunde led all shooters with 255-268-277 - 800. McComas, who holds the Tampa record for a three-game series with 878 bowled several years ago when Pin Chasers Midtown was known as Regal Lanes, followed with 300-259-236 - 785 while Dixon rolled 214-269-299 - 782 and Burns 258-212-182 - 652.

Another Tampa team holds the state four-man record. The team of Pat Trudeau (725), John Pendino (820), Gregg Meany (780) and Danny Cobb (714) rolled 3,039 at Brandon Crossroads Bowl on Oct. 3, 1992.

The national record is 3,174, set Oct. 10, 1991, at Fireside Lanes, Sacramento, Calif.

OAKFIELD LANES: Jerry Feldman, Mike DeVore and Barbara Martin were the big guns last week.

Feldman came within one pin of perfection with a 299, while Mike DeVore rolled 278-754 to lead the men. Martin had 278-674 to pace the women.

Other scores for the men were Nick Rich 279-751, Stan Meadows 277-748, Scott Epperson 279-730, Fred Cook 277-730, Carlos Rogers 289, Adam Drum 278, Paul Thomas 279-664 and Noel Fleming 267-662.

Following Martin for the women were Denise Sneed 237-647, Kim Grund 248-622, Charlie Jenks 249-607, Susie Cox 257, Trish Mazur 234 and Debbie Wright 230.

AMF UNIVERSITY: Darin Hays led the men with 259-748, while Sarah Macander was tops among the women with 226-621.

Other scores for the men were John Dickerman 278-723, Ralph Barnes 267-696, Gary Gordon 248-677, BC Frye 253-676, Glenn Groves 244-673, Dave Beronda 257-661, Stephen Best 235-634 and Casey Wood 279-613. Other lady scorers were Cindy Clark 214-581, Jodi Moores 192-558 and 183-520, Natalie Groves 205-550, Casie Soderstrom 205-522 Amy Weakland 181-520 and Sarah Macander 203-503.

FLORIDA LANES: Tim Guyer's 279-759 paced the men, while Rhonda Eyring led the women with 204-546 last week.

Other good scores for the men were Ron Harmon 690, Chris Amato 249, Michael Dina 244-634, Marc Sonenberg 214 and Bob Sander 201.

Other women scorers were Jo Jenkins 211-535, Lorraine Brewer 177-490 and Claire Boudreau 176-480.

PIN POINTS: Kaye Schuman, 83 years old and averaging 127, picked up the 8-9-10 split last week at Pinarama Lanes. She barely scooted the 10 pin over, with the ball clipping the nine pin to topple left and take out the eight pin. ... USBC has implemented a new specification for the viscosity of lane conditioners. It requires that lane conditioners used during USBC competition read between 12 and 81 centipoises (the standard unit of measurement for fluids) at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It gives USBC specific parameters for future testing and research.
