PLANT CITY - Miria Hester of Plant City was among a group of 18 people from across the Bay area who were honored Jan. 17 as Cornerstones of Heritage at the Cornerstone Family Ministries' 2008 Celebration Banquet in Tampa.
Hester, a deaconess at First United Methodist Church of Plant City, has spent more than 40 years in ministry. She was executive director of Cornerstone from 1976-95 and instrumental in founding the SHARE Food Network program in Florida, which has more than 300 sites in the state. Cornerstone is a nonprofit human services organization dating to 1892 that assists families and people of all ages.
Hester plays piano for the Crossroads Sunday school at First United Methodist. She is also a liaison with a social worker at a local elementary school.
She is married to Charles Lee "Doc" Hester. The couple have two children.
Dinner Raises More Than $15,300 for MS Research
PLANT CITY - A group of volunteers hosted the fifth annual Multiple Sclerosis Dinner on Jan. 12 at St. Clement Catholic Church. About 290 guests were on hand to listen to guest speaker Lise Casady and enjoy a buffet dinner and DJ Ray Mercer. The event raised more than $15,300 for MS research.
The committee members who helped organize the dinner with a Hollywood Nights theme were John Aime, Pat Aime, Cindy Card, Claudia Davis, Mary Ann Fontaine, Theresa Harvill, Lilia Nacianceno, Anthony Rodriguez, Freddy Rodriguez, Todd Rodriguez, Sue Salvato, Cris Stout, Sharon Stout, Earla Turcich, Jim Turcich, Amanda Wingert and Audrie Wingert.
Photo Archives Has Busy Schedule
PLANT CITY - A mission of the Plant City Photo Archives' young professional group, the Bailey-Eastman Group, is to establish and maintain a liaison with area educational institutions. As a first effort, an exhibit of historical photos of black history was on display Feb. 5 at the media center at Plant City High School.
A Party in Black & White with a champagne reception was held at the archive exhibit gallery on Collins Street on Feb. 7 with live jazz provided by five students in the music program at Florida Southern College.

Registration Looms For Festival Youth Events
PLANT CITY - Hillsborough County youth in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to register and compete in the Florida Strawberry Festival youth craft and baking competition. Registration is Saturday and Tuesday.
There are 11 divisions that include baking, crafts and community education, and prizes, including cash, will be awarded.

Christian Women's Group Plans March 4 Luncheon
PLANT CITY - Rayma Bowling announced that the Plant City Christian Women's Connection will hold a luncheon and program with a clown theme from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4 at the Walden Lake Golf and Country Club, 2001 Clubhouse Drive.

Farewell Party Set For Kolkers
PLANT CITY - The Plant City Arts Council, along with Billy and Marsha Passmore and Dean and Mickie Snyder, will host a farewell party for Stanley and Susan Kolker, who are moving to Los Angeles to be near family.
The Kolkers, who are community-minded, moved here from New York City more than 20 years ago. The drop-in party will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Snyder home. Call Marsha Passmore at (813) 754-2301 for reservations and directions.
