Intersection Crash Kills Dover Man

PLANT CITY - A 28-year-old Dover man was killed Feb. 5 when the driver of the car he was riding in ran a red light and struck another vehicle at State Road 39 and Trapnell Road, officials said.

Jose Arriaga-Garcia died at the scene, Plant City police said.

Arriaga-Garcia was a passenger in the southbound car on S.R. 39 driven by Mara Ruiz, 20, of Plant City, police said. As Ruiz approached Trapnell Road about 10 p.m. she ran the red light and collided with a vehicle traveling east on Trapnell driven by William Barlow, 43, of Plant City, police said.

Ruiz and Barlow were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Barlow's teenage son, who was riding in the car with his father, was not injured, police said. The teen's name and age were not immediately available.

The accident is under investigation.
